Character Creation Guide
I. GENERAL MEMBERSHIP & RULES
Character Limitations
Bifrosts prioritizes active storytelling and meaningful character development. To ensure that no character falls into inactivity or stagnation, we limit how many characters a member may own and how frequently new ones may be obtained. We are a roleplay-driven group, not a character-creation one!
- Maximum Slots: 10 characters per member, your first character slot is free, the rest cost stardust.
- Cooldown Period: A mandatory one-month waiting period between the approval of new characters.
- Exceptions: During official openings or tryouts, the cooldown requirement is temporarily lifted. Members currently within their cooldown period are still welcome to participate in these events.
Character Origin
- All characters must originate from one of the four cities/origins or an established outpost. If you are interested in a character with loner or rogue origins, you must open a ticket to discuss possibilities with staff. Approval may require a plot purchase. While we encourage creativity in backstories, all origins must remain lore-consistent, so please be flexible with us!
- Characters may only be descendants of the city in which they were born. Cross-city lineage must be pre-approved through staff and typically requires a plot purchase to maintain world continuity and balance.
Tryout & Family Rules
- Members may not join simultaneously as siblings unless applying for an official in-character litter or a designated kitten tryout, to save our family trees.
- Starting characters may not have pre-existing aunts, uncles, cousins, or extended relatives unless you have been given prior approval!
Submission Requirements
- All applications must use the required PSD or PNG templates on the dA. Biographies must be fully completed; incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Minor design adjustments may be approved by staff. Significant design changes require a ticket submission and the purchase of a pelt-changer item.
V. CHARACTER DEATH
Event Death
- Outcome: The player may immediately create a new character, if they wish, within the same city.
Player-Requested Death
- Must be approved by staff prior to happening!
- The player may not create a new character immediately and must wait until their cooldown is over.
III. NAMING REQUIREMENTS
Language & Cultural Roots
Names must originate from one of the following roots: Old Norse, Old Scandinavian, Old Irish, Old Swedish, Old Icelandic, Old Faroese, Old Danish, or Any North Germanic language.
City Suggestions
We’ve listed out some suggested naming themes for specific cities, as they’d be the most common from these origins!
- Eldur: Old Norse
- Laguz: Icelandic
- Stormr: Swedish or Norwegian
- Forseti: Danish or Faroese
Naming Rules
- Player characters may not share identical names, though familiars may have the same name as an existing character!
- Applications must include the English meaning of the name as well as a valid link to its linguistic origin to be approved — oftentimes, Nordic names may have a greek/english origin, and may have to be changed.
- Names may not carry sexual, vulgar, or inappropriate meanings.
- Characters entering through a kitten tryout must follow the established naming conventions of their parents. Nicknames are not permitted without prior approval from their parents/staff!
Design Context
In Bifrosts, their ancestry is the primary factor for their appearance. All design elements must align with our lore.
Mutations & Banned Traits
Mutations and restricted traits require a shop purchase and staff approval. These traits may directly impact a character’s statistics, mobility, or overall capabilities. Please review the shop page for full guidelines and balancing information.

II. APPEARANCE & DESIGN
The Realism Rule
Bifrosts follows a semi-realistic design standard to preserve immersion.
- Neon eye colors, rainbow pelts, or other unnatural features are not permitted.
- “Pure-bred” status does not exist within this world. While your character may resemble a real-life breed, they are not considered purebred. Breed inspirations may be listed in the biography for artistic reference, but a single breed cannot be listed alone unless accompanied by the term “moggy.”
Accessories
- All accessories must be realistic, obtainable within the world, and approved via a Discord ticket prior to use.
- Feather accessories worn on the head or behind the ear are not permitted!
Please refer to the accessory page for additional details.
